Rusty Griswold Light Display 2025: Goodbye FM, Hello PulseMesh!

Every year, I try to make the light show a little brighter, a little better, and a little more magical — and this year is no different. I’ve got some exciting news about a new feature coming to the Rusty Griswold Christmas Light Display, and I also want to share the bittersweet decision to retire a fan-favorite part of the show.

Let’s rewind to 2020.

During the heart of the pandemic, when we were all looking for safe ways to enjoy the season, I introduced the FM transmitter. It allowed visitors to tune in from the safety of their cars and enjoy the full synchronized experience of music and lights — all while staying distanced from others. It quickly became a core part of the light show, and something many of you told me made your holidays just a little bit brighter during tough times.

But as technology evolves, so must we.

Many newer vehicles now come equipped with high-definition FM radios, which unfortunately cause a noticeable delay in the music, meaning the lights and music no longer line up perfectly for some viewers. And if there’s one thing the Rusty Griswold Light Display is all about, it’s that perfect harmony between what you see and what you hear.

So this year, I’m officially retiring the FM transmitter.

But don’t worry — I’ve got something even better in store.

Introducing PulseMesh!
New for the 2025 season, you’ll be able to enjoy the fully synchronized audio experience using your iOS or Android smartphone. PulseMesh is an easy-to-use app that lets you stream the light show’s music perfectly in sync — no delays, no static, and no fiddling with radio dials.

You can connect your phone to your car stereo via Bluetooth, plug in your headphones, or use any audio setup that works for you and your family.

It’s the same dazzling display you’ve come to love — now with crystal-clear, lag-free sound at your fingertips.

How to Use PulseMesh:

  1. Download the free PulseMesh app on your smartphone.
  2. When you arrive at the display, open the app and follow the on-screen instructions.
  3. That’s it — you’re connected and ready to enjoy the show!

I’ll have signs up with instructions and QR codes to make it as easy as possible.

While I’ll miss the FM transmitter (and I know some of you will too), I’m excited for this new chapter in the light show’s journey. My goal has always been to bring joy, wonder, and a bit of holiday magic to our community — and I think PulseMesh is going to help do just that.

Thanks for all your continued support, and I can’t wait to see you at the Rusty Griswold Christmas Light Display!

Let the countdown to Christmas begin!

  • Since 2015, I have been building my light display to celebrate the holiday season and experimenting with various recipes to bring people together around the table. I have learned many do's and don'ts in both areas along the way, and share them with everyone via the rustygriswold.ca website.
